24. Assignment 15

We were required to build a house out of foam board and take some pictures of it. This assignment was not easy as there is a lot of time needed to produce something neat and precise. Cutting skills were very important. This layout was after the assignment was done and we were required to take four pictures of it. It is then rendered with marker.

23. Assignment 15

Markers markers markers. This is my first time using markers. As most of us had never had the experience on using markers, a lotf of us bought rather bright colours.

22. Assignment 14 Review

Coraline is the only horror that i'll ever watch. It's a stop play motion and it's a perfect blend of fantasy and darkness. I really enjoyed drawing out the plot. I also researched about the movie further and discovered a few interesting things like how it's based on brainwashing.

21. Assignment 13 Review

The latest assignment we got back was a watercolour assignment that we did in class. This one is rather fun and I really enjoyed it. We were required to paint some fruits.

20. Assignment 12 Review

Here is the room we have to draw using our 2 point perspective grid.

Bedroom, two point perspective. Two point perspective roved to be a little challenging as we learned where to strategically place our vanishing points through trial and error. my room's angle ended up really wide.
And here's oni!

19. Assignment 11 Review

Two point perspective grid this week. This was in preparation for the next assignment.

Two point grid was rather tough as mine turned out to be rather wide angled. I needed to keep my lines cleaner to be able to see the grid at the far end clearly.

18. Assignment 10 Review

This is a drawing of a kitchen with pen on tracing paper using the one point perspective grid that we drew earlier on.

Kitchen One Point Perspective. The detailing for this assignment took a really long time but the end result was really satisfying.

17. Assignment 9 Review

One point perspective! This needed to be submitted on the same day as we needed it to do our next assignment.

One point grid. This was pretty simple to do given the step by step in class.

16. Assignment 8 Review

Isooooometric drawing of a funny shaped thingamajiga~

Isometric drawing with the scale of 1:75 The most challenging part f this was trying to draw that circle in the middle. Who knew there was a formula for these things.

15. Assignment 7 Review

This week was the other way round which we few a short section and  a long elevation.

Long elevation is the long side of the house. It's the outside and we wont be able to see the material cause it doesnt cut through the house.

Short section is the short side of the house and it cuts through the middle of the house. This enables us to see the materials inside the house. (Oh look, its Oni the cat!)

14. Assignment 6 Review

This week is about drawing a short elevation and a long section.

Long section plan proved to be rather challenging. Symbols vary across the internet. I had a particularly hard time looking for a cross section of a bed.

Short elevation plan was more simple to draw as compared to the long section in the above.

13. Assignment 5 Review

Reflected Ceiling plan for this assignment posed as a new challenge. It was pretty different from the plan drawing and was slightly confusing.

Reflected Ceiling Plan

12. Assignment 4 Review

Assignment 4 was when things get serious. We learned to draw our first plan drawing of a house. It was a lot of researching to utilise the correct symbols and dimension.

Plan drawing

11. Assignment 3 Review

Assignment 3 was another Orthographic Projection, but this time, we had a more complicated form to draw. I've improved from my previous assignment. Hence I scored 9/10 for my neatness. However, some lines could still be improved to show the depth of the object better.

Orthographic Projection on tracing paper and drawn with pen.

10. Assignment 2 Review

For this assignment we learned orthographic projections. We learned how to draw the Top, Front and Side view of a project and how to differentiate it as well. I scored 8/10. My quality of lines needed some improvement.

9. Assignment 1 Review

This is the first assignment that was given to us. We could pick out of a few topics to draw in detail and I picked a watch face. To further challenge myself, I picked one which showcases it's mechanism on the inside.

8. Sketch Note : KL to Mersing

During our Tioman trip, we had a lecture about sketchnote. It's basically a method to take down notes quick for our daily usage. It includes, images, typography, arrows, bullet points , description and even drawings of people. This visual diary task is about drawing a sketchnote about our journey to Mersing from Kuala Lumpur.

Here is my attempt on the sketch note.

7. Two Point Perspective

After learning about one point perspective, naturally we will learn two point perspective. Two points allows a different point of view for a space.  Here are some exercises.

6. Tioman Sketch

We went to Tioman last week and did a good many things. Here's one of the tasks during the trip. We were required to do some live sketching. So I walked and walked and sat and sketched.

The first one is of a jetty.

The second one is of an island near by the main island.

5. One Point Perspective

This week's visual diary task is reagarding one point perspective. We were taught to identify the Horizontal Line, Ground Line and Vanishing point. Here are five images.
Here is a kitchen

Here is a bedroom

Here is a bedroom

Here is a bedroom

Here is a living room.

All these images has one point perspective. I find that images or presentations with a clear 'tunnel' effect would look better in one point perspective. If there were many pieces of furniture in the middle, one point perspective would not be able to showcase the room well.

4. Plan Drawing

This week is a lil more challenging than usual. For me it was the decision making process and having confidence in my decision. We learned about symbols and dimensions of day to day furniture. Who knew drawing a plan of a house needed so much research! I suppose there isn't a major wrong answer because even standard sizes of toilet bowls vary from country to country. Here's our assignment.

Above is the sketch of plans of 2 places. No rulers and erasers. Hope it's fine.

3. Orthographic Projections and Symbols

This time round, we were taught about orthographic projections and symbols. It's much more tedious than you think but I think tasks like these is just a matter of getting used to. Personally, for the orthographic tasks, I felt like I had to be very careful. Here we go.

2. Tonal Value

This assignment is all about tonal values through different rendering techniques. There are, hatching, cross-hatching, scribbling and stippling. Here's the assignment. (Hope you don't mind the kitten paw)

Hatching and Cross-hatching

Scribbling and Stippling

I personally really enjoy hatching and cross-hatching as I feel that different stroke directions were able to highlight the different contours of a surface.

Till the next one!

1. Sketchbook Cover

Here's to a new beginning. This means, new sketchbook.

For the first task, we are required to purchase and decorate our sketchbook. This marks the beginning of our Design Communication class.

Looking forward to it!
